Staff Spotlight: Hari Babilonia

During her six-month internship at Christ Child House (CCH) from September through February, Roriany Babilonia, known around the House as Hari, became a valued member of the CCH family. Originally from Brazil, Hari earned a degree in Education and worked as a teacher, where she discovered a passion for supporting children, adolescents and families. Inspired to make an even greater impact, she chose to pursue a career in social work, a path that ultimately led her to Christ Child House.

When asked about her experience, Hari shared:

“My time at CCH became one of the most meaningful experiences of my life in the United States. I learned so much from the boys, and the staff made me feel truly seen, valued and welcomed as part of the CCH family. Executive Director Maria Lessnau especially encouraged and supported me in ways that deeply impacted my confidence and professional growth.

One of my favorite parts of being at CCH was sharing my culture with the boys and staff. The moments of connection, laughter and cultural exchange meant so much to me. At CCH, I never felt out of place. Instead, I felt embraced for who I was, and that reflects what social work is truly about: seeing and valuing the whole person.”

Hari continues to work toward completing her social work degree at Eastern Michigan University and is awaiting approval for a work permit. She hopes to finalize everything soon and looks forward to the possibility of returning to Christ Child House in the future.

We’d be lucky to welcome her back!
