Residential Treatment Program

Residential Treatment Program

At Christ Child House, our Residential Treatment Program provides intensive residential treatment for boys ages 6–16 who have experienced significant trauma, abuse, neglect or multiple disruptions in care.

Since 1948, Christ Child House has been a place of hope and healing for more than 3,000 children. Today, as a Qualified Residential Treatment Program (QRTP) with a Mental Health Behavioral Stabilization (MHBS) designation, we provide an enhanced level of behavioral health care through increased staffing, intensive clinical services and a highly structured therapeutic environment.

Designed to serve up to 28 boys at a time, our program combines individualized care and attention each child deserves. By integrating clinical treatment, education, recreation and family engagement, we help children achieve greater stability and prepare for a successful future.

Every child who comes to Christ Child House has a different story, but each begins the same way: with safety, stability and the opportunity to heal. Guided by a multidisciplinary team, every child follows a personalized treatment plan that addresses emotional, behavioral, educational and developmental needs through four core areas of care.

Psychiatric & Therapeutic Services

Healing begins with understanding each child's unique strengths and challenges. Our multidisciplinary team provides comprehensive assessments, psychiatric care and evidence-based therapeutic services that address the effects of trauma and support emotional well-being.

As an MHBS program, we provide an enhanced level of behavioral health support through increased staffing, a highly structured therapeutic environment and intensive clinical services tailored to each child's individual needs.

Services include:

Individual and group therapy

Psychiatric evaluation and medication management

Trauma-focused treatment

Play, art, music and adventure-based therapies

Skill-building and social-emotional development

Independent living preparation for older youth

Our therapeutic approach helps children build healthy coping skills, strengthen relationships, process grief and loss, develop resilience and prepare for lifelong stability.

Educational Support

Education is an essential part of every child's treatment plan. Under the guidance of our Educational Coordinator, we work closely with schools, families and community partners to ensure each child receives the academic support needed to succeed.

We coordinate school placements based on each child's individual needs, provide ongoing educational advocacy and offer year-round learning opportunities, including an on-campus summer education and remediation program. Our goal is to help every child maintain academic progress, build confidence and reach their full potential.

Recreational & Life Enrichment Programs

Healing happens both inside and outside the classroom and therapy office. Through recreational programming, children discover new interests, build confidence and develop healthy relationships while reinforcing the goals of their treatment plan.

Activities may include:

Community outings and cultural experiences

Sports and outdoor recreation

Summer camp experiences

Art and music programming

Animal-assisted activities

Life skills development workshops

These meaningful experiences promote physical, emotional and social growth while helping children experience the joy of childhood.

Aftercare & Transitional Support

Healing doesn't end when a child leaves our residential program. Our team works closely with families, caregivers and community partners to help ensure a successful transition and lasting stability.

We provide up to one year of aftercare services, including family support, coordination with community resources and ongoing guidance as children return home, transition to foster care or move toward another permanent living arrangement. For youth without permanent family connections, we actively support permanency planning and the development of lifelong supportive relationships.
